Foundation Stage (Reception) – Focus on using a ball

Reception students are focusing on using a ball to balance, carry, jump, aim, throw and catch this half-term. Students will be looking at sending and receiving a ball with increasing confidence and control. To develop co-ordination when steering, bouncing, or kicking a ball. In addition, understand how to use space and share it safely.

Year 1 – Focus on ball skills and gamesy1

Year one students will be focusing on using ball skills and games this half-term. They will know and show different ways of using a ball and understand how to balance, roll, and pass a ball around different body parts. Students will learn how to apply these skills safely in a game. They will learn how to move safely and actively throughout the space provided.

y2Year Two – Focus on using a ball

Year Two students will be focusing on using a ball to balance, carry, aim, throw and catch this half-term. Students will be looking at rolling and receiving the ball individually and with a partner. They will learn how to pass the ball around different body parts. Students will learn how to throw and catch high and low. In addition, students will be looking at how to successfully use their skills to aim at a target provided.

Year Three – Net / Court / Wall games

Year three students will be focusing on net / court / wall games this half- term. Students will consolidate and improve the quality and consistency of their hitting skills. Students will be looking at how important footwork and hand-eye coordination is in net / court / wall games. In addition, students will focus on simple tactics to outwit their opponent. For example, the difference between hitting the low vs. high, or a strong shot vs. a weak shot.

Year four – Net / Court / Wall games y4

Year Four students will be focusing on net / court / wall games this half- term. Students will learn how to use a bat to strike a ball with a degree of accuracy and control. Students will look at how to strike a ball at different speeds, levels, and directions. Students will learn how to combine their skills to play a 1 v 1 and 3 v 3 net game cooperatively with their partner.

Year Five – Net / Court / Wall games

Year five students will be focusing on net / court / wall games this half-term. They will learn how to play shots on both sides of the body from above the head with reasonable control. They will learn how to position their bodies to receive a ball coming from different heights and angles. Students will learn how to recognise where there are spaces on an opponent’s court and try to hit into them. In addition, we will look at improving the quality and consistency of their shot.

Year Six – Striking and fielding games

Year six students will be focusing on striking and fielding games this half-term. Mr Younis from Chance to shine project and Yorkshire Cricket will come into deliver cricket to the students. Students will be able to learn how to play the sport cricket from a professional cricketer. The students will look at different fielding and batting techniques to be successful. The students will learn how to position on the field and tips on where to strike the ball while batting.
